New York Schools Enforce New COVID-19 Protection Rules: Students Will Take Tests At Home

New York City public schools returned from winter break on January 3. The visit will be regulated under the new in-home testing regime. According to policies introduced by former Mayor Bill de Blasio and expected to continue with New York's new mayor Eric Adams, Students or school staff who have come into contact with COVID-19 patients will receive two home testing kits. They will have to take the first test immediately, and if it is negative, they will be able to continue attending school.

Under the policy, students exposed to the virus will be allowed to attend school if they test negative on the day of exposure. After five days, they will have to do the test again. If it is negative and there are no symptoms, then they will continue to go to school. Those who test positive must be isolated for 10 days.

Students, parents, and staff are not required to provide evidence of negative test results. The city relies on their responsibility.

3-K and Pre-K students who have been in contact with COVID-19 patients will not be tested. They must be quarantined for 10 days without fail.
