At least 12 million Americans and one in four children in New York City suffer from food shortages during the pandemic. To help those in need, the federal government introduced pandemic EBT cards and increased food stamp benefits (SNAP) by 15%. However, many New Yorkers are unaware of these additional benefits. PIX11.
EBT is a federal program that reimburses families for meals that students would receive in schools if they were not closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These reimbursements are made to all families, regardless of their income and place of residence.
“We want every parent of every child in public schools to know this,” said Manhattan President Gail Brewer.

Every family with a child in a public school is sent between $ 820 and $ 1 on an EBT card, depending on how long the child has been distance learning. The cards can be used wherever SNAP cards are accepted.
