- On January 6, Trump supporters broke through metal security barriers, shattered windows and stormed the Capitol building... To break through, the protesters used chemical irritants - it could be tear gas, chloroacetophenone (popularly “bird cherry”) and other irritants (the police have not yet been able to pinpoint the substance used). It was for this reason that the Capitol police were forced to retreat.
- An angry mob forced members of Congress and their aides to flee the building under cover of the Capitol police.
- The protests began shortly after Trump reiterated his unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud to the thousands of demonstrators he invited to Washington.
- As a result of the storming of the Capitol killed 5 people.
