Before the pandemic, for 115 years of its existence, the New York subway worked around the clock, but in the spring of 2020 it was decided to close the subway at night - from 1:00 to 5:00 to clean and disinfect the carriages. Many have long been waiting for the resumption of the 24-hour format of the subway. He has not yet been returned, but the night break from today, February 22, has been reduced to two hours instead of four.
Now the city's metro will be closed from 2:00 to 4:00, instead of the previous work break from 1:00 to 5:00, reminds New York Daily News.
The management of the City Transport Administration (MTA) promises that this is the first step towards the resumption of round-the-clock work, but has not named any terms yet.
Two masks
At the same time, the MTA leadership said that the transport crews will help passengers follow the new rules of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is about introducing a recommendation to wear two masks instead of one. Now in the New York subway, all passengers who wish will be given a second mask for free.

A study published by the CDC last week found that wearing two masks at the same time dramatically reduces the risk of spreading COVID-19. Wearing a cloth mask over a surgical mask is 65% more effective at keeping drops from a person's mouth or nose.
You can get a second mask at metro kiosks or from special teams on trains. Masks will be available to everyone.
