On February 18, New York City health officials issued new guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. It encourages people to wear two masks instead of one, writes New York Daily News.
The new recommendations were announced by Mayor Bill de Blasio, as well as by the head of the city's health department, Dr. Dave Chokshi. The reason for such precautions, they said, is the circulation of new, more infectious strains of coronavirus in the city.
“Of all we have learned during this crisis, perhaps the most important is the strength of the face mask,” said de Blasio. - And today we say that it is time to double this power. Two masks are better than one. Double your protection! ”
The city's recommendation came just days after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued similar guidelines, which say two masks are more effective at preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“The most important thing is to wear a face mask consistently and correctly so that it covers both your nose and mouth. You must wear it both indoors and outdoors, ”Chokshi explained. - Using two masks is more effective in preventing the spread of the virus. Chokshi recommended that people with an increased risk of infection and development of serious complications of COVID-19 use KN95 masks, then there is no need to wear a second mask.
Meanwhile, New York City faced problems with vaccine supplies. It's all to blame for heavy snowfalls that disrupted transportation around the country, but de Blasio expects a new batch of vaccines to arrive by Sunday, February 21 (usually a batch for a week is brought in on Tuesday-Wednesday).
