First murder in 2023: man stabbed to death for parking space

The new year started bloody Sunday when a man was stabbed to death during an argument over a parking space in the Bronx. This was the first murder of 2023, according to police, reports New York Post.
The victim was identified as Sergio Garcia, 63. He and a 38-year-old woman were stabbed outside a building on College Avenue off East 170th Street in Claremont Village shortly before 4 a.m.
“They got into an altercation with an unknown group over a parking lot,” the source said. “The man was killed because of a parking space.”
The injured couple were taken to the Bronx Lebanese Hospital, where Garcia was pronounced dead. The woman is in stable condition.
There were no arrests.

As of Christmas, there were 2022 homicides in five counties in 418, according to police data. This is less than 481 for the same period last year.
The deadly stabbing wasn't the only early bloodshed this year.
A man was stabbed in the stomach at the corner of East 21st Street and Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron neighborhood of Manhattan around 2:30 am.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in a stable condition. The suspect, wearing a yellow jacket and gray jeans, fled on foot down 21st Street. The motive for the crime is unknown.
