Beginning next month, New York's Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge will charge both directions for the first time in 35 years. This is reported by the edition New York Post.
One of the world's largest suspension bridges, connecting the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island, will be toll-free starting December 1, 2020. This was reported on Monday, November 9, in the MTA.
Drivers using the E-ZPass electronic toll collection system will pay $ 6,12 for both Staten Island and Brooklyn. All other drivers will pay $ 9,50.
However, Staten Island residents will only be charged $ 2,75 to cross the bridge in both directions.
Currently, the Staten Island bridge toll is $ 12,24 with the E-ZPass and $ 19 without it.

Drivers bound for Brooklyn have been exempted from this fee due to federal law of 1986. He made this flight the only one in the country with a mandatory one-way toll.
US President Donald Trump and Congress overturned the law in 2019 with the support of Congressman Max Rose (D-Staten Island) and other New York City officials.
"Restoring split toll charging in both directions will end a 30-year loophole in New York, which will help reduce congestion on Staten Island while improving the environment," said MTA Chairman Pat Foy.
