A taxi driver dragged a 78-year-old passenger out of the car and attacked a passerby who tried to protect the woman

An Access-A-Ride driver dragged a 78-year-old woman out of her car onto a Brooklyn street. He, according to her, tried to steal her phone and money, reports New York Post.

The horrific incident, which was captured on video and tweeted, shows a male driver pulling a woman out of the back seat and closing the car door. She lies on the street trying to fight him off with a cane.

The woman booked an Access-A-Ride to take her to her physical therapy appointment.

However, she noted, the driver drove past the drop off point and refused to let her out of the car, police said.

An argument ensued that ended with the driver pulling the woman out of the car by her leg on East 15th Avenue around 30:35 p.m.

The 35-year-old bystander who filmed the shocking video intervened as the woman yelled "call the police."

He took the passenger's phone from the driver after she screamed that the man had stolen it.

When the driver handed the phone to the woman, he ran back behind the wheel and stepped on the gas pedal hitting the bystander as he tried to stop him from escaping.

A witness to the incident then asked the woman if she was okay, to which she replied, “No.

"I'm 78 years old and he threw me out of a taxi, took my money, took my phone," the shocked woman said. She, sitting on the roadway, covered her face with her hands.

Both the woman and the passerby were hospitalized in a stable condition. The driver remains free.

According to the report, NYC TLC said they were working with the NYPD to investigate.
