Cuomo emphasized that the loss of loved ones was painful for their families, but added that the decline in death rates is a sign that the state has "made real progress."

He recalled a conversation he had with a medical professional when deaths in New York were at their peak - several hundred deaths a day. Then Cuomo asked the interlocutor what indicator could be considered a “positive sign”.

"If the number of deaths falls below 100, I think you can breathe a sigh of relief," - quoted the words of the interlocutor Cuomo.

“When he said that, we had several hundred deaths every day, and it looked almost impossible to go below 100, but I took a note of what he said. In life, you always need to have a goal towards which you will strive, ”added the governor.

While numbers remain low, the state continues to lift quarantines, Cuomo said. The Mid Hudson Region will begin opening its economy on Tuesday, and Long Island on Wednesday.
