A resident of Queens terrorized a New York restaurant for six months: it all ended in murder

A Queens man arrested on Wednesday, June 1, allegedly shot dead a delivery worker out of revenge for ordering Chinese food. Pix11.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Glenn Hirsch, 51, harassed workers at the Great Wall restaurant for several months. He later shot and killed 45-year-old Zhiwen Yang. Jan was shot dead just moments after he gave the order on April 30th.

“A petty dispute over a takeout order became an obsession for the defendant, who harassed the restaurant staff for months,” Katz said. “The tragic result was the murder of a hard-working employee.” The slain Queens delivery driver is survived by his wife and three children.

Hirsch's Rage began on November 30, 2021. He ordered food and asked for additional packets of duck sauce, which were given to him by employees at the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant on Queens Boulevard. But, nevertheless, the defendant got angry and argued with the employees of the diner. The Queens man demanded a refund and wanted the food back. When the workers refused, Hirsch called the police. The officers arrived and the workers explained to them that they could not take the food back due to COVID-19.

Hirsch ran out, but is said to have repeatedly returned and threatened the workers. On December 16, 2021, Hirsch allegedly used a knife to damage a restaurant worker's car.

“I have a gun,” he once told the workers. "Be careful, I'm telling you this for the last time."

On January 28, 2022, a worker was clearing snow from the street when Hirsch showed up. Hirsch pointed a gun at him.

“How is your car? Remember me? I will kill your whole family,” he said.

The worker ran inside and called the police. By the time the worker went outside, Hirsch was gone and the tires on the worker's car were slashed.

Authorities said Hirsch dropped his wife off at work on April 30. He was then captured on cameras as he walked past the Queens Boulevard restaurant seven times.

Jan left the restaurant on a scooter shortly before 21:30 pm, officials said. Hirsch oversaw how Jan made the delivery. Yang drove away, and then, stopping at a red light near 67th and 108th Streets, he spotted Hirsch.

The worker backed away, but Hirsch fired one shot in the chest and killed the courier. Hirsch escaped by hiding in his wife's apartment.

On Thursday, June 2, a Queens County grand jury indicted Hirsch on murder, stalking and other charges. If found guilty, he faces 29 to 44 years in prison.
