During a working trip to New York at the 77th UN General Assembly, the wife of the President of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, together with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmigal, visited the 9/11 Memorial, where she received an unusual gift. The edition told in more detail "Glavcom".

The President of the Memorial presented the first lady with a seedling grown from the seeds of a tree that grew in a pavilion near the World Trade Center and miraculously survived during the attacks.

Elena Zelenskaya wrote on her social network that she was most struck by the tree, which is called the “Surviving Tree” here.

“This tree at first glance is quite ordinary. If not for the scars left on it after the terrible terrorist attack on September 11 in New York. A tree that grew in a pavilion near the World Trade Center was miraculously rescued from under four meters of rubble, came out and finally transplanted into the 9/11 Memorial, ”Zelenskaya wrote.

Later, the First Lady of Ukraine said that the President of the Memorial gave Ukrainians a seedling grown from the seeds of this plant: “Today, together with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, we received an extremely symbolic gift for Ukraine – a seedling of the same tree that survived during the September 11 terrorist attack. It was handed over to the Ukrainians by the president of the 9/11 Memorial, Alice Greenivald, as a symbol of resilience and hope.”

“Americans who lost loved ones in that terrible terrorist attack come to the surviving tree. In May, the tree was illuminated with blue and yellow flowers - as a sign of solidarity with the people of Ukraine. I feel this solidarity and support every second during the trip. And I am sure that the Ukrainian tree will put down strong roots and bloom in the liberated country,” added the First Lady of Ukraine. “Since 2013, the Memorial has been donating such seedlings to communities that have survived terrible tragedies and survived. Last year, the Norwegian communities of Oslo and Uteya received the trees, where a gunman killed 77 people. Even earlier - the Greek city of Marathon, where more than a hundred people died due to forest fires, and the Bahamas, devastated by a hurricane.

After the 9/11 Memorial, Olena Zelenska, together with Denis Shmyhal, visited the Ukrainian Museum in New York.
