New York's hidden gem: how to find a giant swing on the embankment and take cool photos

New Yorkers can feel like kids again thanks to a new giant swing on the waterfront. According to Secret nyc, these swings were installed in the spring of 2019, but they still go unnoticed and few people know about their location.

The huge swing is located along the East River at Pier 35 (entrance at Jefferson Street and Clinton Street). They appeared there after the reconstruction of the East River Waterfront Esplanade.

This three-mile public open space is owned by the city and offers public programs, recreation, and unparalleled views of the New York City waterfront. The parkland lies underneath the FDR Highway and hangs directly over the East River.

Four giant swings sit on a raised platform and are suspended from a canopy. There is a dog run area, exercise equipment, ball and skateboarding areas, and many other recreational opportunities.

Since 2004, SHoP has been designing and developing projects to restore and revitalize this long-neglected section of the Lower Manhattan waterfront.

Together with the NYC Parks Department, they created an innovative project to restore mussel habitat - Mussel Beach.
