New York introduced isolation requirement for travelers from 16 states: list

The list of states whose residents are required to undergo a mandatory two-week quarantine upon arrival in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut has been expanded from 8 to 16. This was announced on June 30 by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The new restriction will affect those states where today there is a surge in coronavirus. Their list included California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada and Tennessee. Now, a traveler from these places, entering New York State, will have to be in quarantine for 14 days, for non-compliance with the requirements they face fines and penalties.

“We are trying to keep the infection away from New York,” Cuomo said, explaining that the first step to solving a problem is to acknowledge that it exists, and New York recognizes the problem.

“Remember how the infection started in New York - it came from Europe, flew in by air through our airports. We now have all these other states with high infection rates. We are afraid that they (residents of these states - Ed.) Will fly to New York and provoke the same problem, and it will only get worse, "the governor explained.

“Thus, now 16 states are subject to quarantine in New York. This is a very serious problem, ”Cuomo said.

Recall that on June 25, the governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut issued mandatory quarantine orders for eight states. This was done because on average per 100 thousand inhabitants over the past seven days there have been more than 10 positive tests for COVID-19.

States whose residents were previously required to quarantine upon arrival at the Tri-state area include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah and Texas.

The restriction for these states will be removed when they reach an infection rate of 10 infections per 100 thousand people or less.

Cuomo said tourism inspectors would conduct "spot checks" and the state would rely on an "honor system."
