Make summer 2023 unforgettable for New York! Becoming a lifeguard is a rewarding experience. You will work outdoors in New York City's most iconic locations and play a critical role in helping New Yorkers of all ages access beaches and pools safely.

Through the lifeguard training program and working as a lifeguard in New York parks, you will develop valuable skills that will last a lifetime.
As a NYC park lifeguard, you will:
- Work in the most iconic places in New York.
Lifeguards work five or six days a week. Places of work include the beautiful Rockways Oceanfront, historic Coney Island, and the only floating pool in North America! - Be part of the team.
Make lifelong friends who are also committed to public service. - Get your certificate.
You will earn your NYC Parks Lifeguard certification and learn CPR, first aid and rescue techniques. - Practice swimming.
You will have access to all the indoor pools in the city to strengthen your swimming skills.

Steps to Becoming a Lifeguard
1.Pass the qualification test
Passing the qualification test is the first step to becoming a lifeguard. These tests are carried out in indoor pools in the winter before the upcoming summer season. All potential lifeguards must pass the lifeguard qualification test, vision test and swimming test.

2. Train at the lifeguard school
Once you pass the qualification test, your training to become a lifeguard will begin. You'll develop your swimming skills, learn lifesaving techniques, and earn your certification to become a lifeguard in NYC parks. Lifeguard Training is a 16-week program that consists of 40 hours of training, a course of artificial respiration and final swimming tests.
3. Go to the beaches and pools
If you successfully complete the training program, you may be offered a full-time summer job at the beach or pool. Beaches open on Memorial Day weekend and outdoor pools at the end of June. Beaches and pools close on the Sunday after Labor Day.
