New Yorkers who received unemployment benefits in 2022 will receive their tax form 1099-G in the mail at the end of January, reports Newsday.
To simplify the filing process for those who received unemployment benefits, the New York State Department of Labor will automatically mail Forms 1099-G to them, unless they first choose to receive this form electronically. Previously, recipients had to contact the Office by phone to specifically request this form.

“There is no reason to call to request forms,” Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon said. "This proactive approach ensures New Yorkers who receive benefits can properly complete their tax forms on time."
If a New Yorker receives a Form 1099-G but has not applied for benefits, the state encourages them to file a fraud claim with the Department of Labor. It is highly likely that this person was the victim of identity theft. The agency will review the application and, if necessary, send an amended tax form.
