In the past year, many good ideas were implemented in New York. But there is still much that the city’s authorities have to do in 2020. Edition Curbed proposed eight ideas, the implementation of which will make the lives of citizens more comfortable, safer and more interesting.
In the past year, in New York, some changes were introduced that made people's lives better. For example, in East New York there was a huge shady park for walks; they decided to make skyscrapers more friendly to birds in order to prevent their mass death; and MetroCards at half price has become more accessible to even more people.
But there are things that will make New York even better in the new year.
New York Wishlist for 2020
More bus routes
If you have been driving the M14 in the last couple of months, then you know that this experience has become much more pleasant now that the bus line has been implemented. So the time has come to deploy even larger highways around the five districts of the city to make travel on it even more comfortable.
More affordable housing
While New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration has made tremendous strides in making housing more affordable, much remains to be done to meet the needs of the poorest New Yorkers.
Perhaps this means building a much denser housing, or expanding the boundaries of areas in which more apartment buildings could be accommodated.
Safer Streets of New York
It was a terrible year for pedestrians and cyclists. In 2019, 215 pedestrians and 29 cyclists died on the roads. To end this, you need to design safer streets, creating even more secure bike paths; make busy neighborhoods pedestrianized, including ban traffic in Manhattan. For starters, you can restrict traffic to Times Square, the source said.

It is worth noting that the city’s transport department has already experimented with car-free streets, in particular by closing several kilometers of the Broadway road on Earth Day. So why not make Times Square completely free of cars?
“The recent redesign of Snøhetta was a good start; let's take another step or three and make the space safer and more enjoyable, ”the newspaper writes.
Return Citi Bike with pedals
New Yorkers simply want to cycle through city bridges with ease again. No more nine-digit lists.
"Can't New York have affordable housing and how many more $ 100 million apartments does one city need?" - the author laments.
Probably, 2020 is precisely the year that should put an end to the era of housing created exclusively for billionaires.
Make public places accessible
It refers to any space used by the public, whether it is a subway, street, public buildings or even shawarma sculptures.
It is also worth discovering more places closed to the public. After all, today, residents of the city can only dream of making Gramersi Park a truly public space. The same applies to the Woolworth Building lobby, which you can only get by paying for the tour, and to the New York State Pavilion in Queens, abandoned since the 1964 World Expo.
