Free Professional Courses for New Yorkers: City Hall Launches Website

New York City Department of Small Business (SBS) launched Career Discovery NYC Is a centralized resource to help New Yorkers build careers and learn.
The site was launched back in August, but the Department has now presented it to the general public at a special press conference. On the Career Discovery NYC Collected free online training programs to help New Yorkers acquire skills necessary to build a career in a sought-after field. The website is constantly expanding with new courses added.
What profession can you get on the site
Cable installer
Introductory courses in electricity and wiring are delivered by Brooklyn Workforce Innovations as part of the Brooklyn Networks program. New Yorkers will also be able to access the on-site safety training virtual course. Upon completion, participants will receive a card that is required to perform certain work in the construction industry and in the field of cable laying.
Commercial driver
Brooklyn Workforce Innovations delivers information sessions, an introductory course, and curated practice tests on this topic as part of the Red Hook on the Road program. The 4-week intensive training program includes virtual lessons and driving practice with the aim of further passing the DMV Commercial Driving License (CDL) test.
Data analyst
Those interested in a career as a data analyst can access Galvanize's introductory Excel, SQL and Tableau workshops. Coursera and Codecademy courses on Excel, Probability and Statistical Distribution are also available.
Post-production
The presentation will be held for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the media and entertainment industry. Courses include training in the basics of graphic design, VR video creation and 360 Video Production, as well as personal branding. All of these courses are provided by Coursera.
