No longer the safest major city: New York sets an anti-shooting record

Since the beginning of the year and as of August 30, the number of shootings in New York City has exceeded a thousand. The previous anti-record was set five years ago - 1138 shootings for the entire 2015. However, there are still four months left until the end of the year, and the situation is only getting worse. The number of shootings in New York as of 30 August was 1004. During the same period last year, there were 537 shootings.
Over the past four weeks, an average of nearly 10 people have been victims of gun violence every day, New York City police say.
For the first time in five years, New York City has set a new anti-record, with 2015 shootings recorded in 1138 for the entire year.

“Mr. Mayor, it's time to stop calling New York the safest big city,” said one of the police officers.
The number of skirmishes increased markedly as Labor Day approached. On September 7, when the United States traditionally celebrates this holiday, the police expect "another bloody weekend in the Big Apple."
Recall that the surge in violence with the use of firearms has been observed in the city for 13 weeks in a row. Compared to last year, the number of shootings increased by 375 cases, and the number of victims - by 499.
In 28 days, as of August 30, there were 277 gunfight casualties - an average of almost 10 people were injured per day, New York City police figures show.
