Hundreds of thousands of people work in New York's 80 municipal services. Taking the test is the way to start the process of getting hired for most of these positions. There is a fee to apply, ranging from $40 to $101.
According to DCAS, it usually takes 9 to 12 months after an exam to complete an appropriate list of test takers. From among them, the services select candidates for further recruitment.
